catatonic

Artist's Statement

Catatonic is a video essay exploring the debilitating effects of social anxiety. My project attempts to make sense of how anxiety manifests throughout a day. It emphasizes a soundscape meant to evoke feelings of fear, uncertainty, and confusion. This video essay is a reflection of my experiences with anxiety, something I severely struggled with throughout college.

Catatonic implements an eclectic soundscape that drives the visual narrative. The sounds I created were built on an analog synthesizer, a Korg minilogue. I used the audio software Ableton to record, edit, and mix. Visuals were filmed by me on an Olympus OM-D. The video essay was compiled in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Catatonic is best experienced using headphones.
